Emerging from the frozen landscapes of Rovaniemi, Finland, Lordi is a hard rock band that carved a unique and monstrous path to international fame, becoming one of the most visually distinctive acts in modern music. Founded in 1992 by lead singer, songwriter, and master costume designer Mr Lordi (born Tomi Petteri Putaansuu), the band is renowned for its elaborate monster masks, theatrical horror-themed performances, and pyrotechnic-laden shows, all while keeping the true identities of its members a closely guarded secret. The band's dedication to its monstrous personas and commitment to hard rock theatrics culminated in a historic victory at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2006, a moment that cemented their legacy.

The concept for Lordi was born from Mr Lordi's lifelong passion for horror movies, hard rock music, and monster culture. For a decade, the band developed its sound and theatrical vision, undergoing several lineup changes with Mr Lordi as the sole constant. Their breakthrough finally arrived in 2002 with the release of their debut album, "Get Heavy," which featured the hit single "Would You Love a Monsterman?". The album's success established their signature blend of catchy, melodic heavy metal with a grotesque, comic book-inspired aesthetic, a formula they continued to refine on subsequent releases like "The Monsterican Dream" and "The Arockalypse."

Lordi achieved a seismic cultural milestone in 2006 when they represented Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest in Athens with the anthemic "Hard Rock Hallelujah." Defying the contest's pop-dominated history, their pyrotechnic spectacle and powerful performance won over European audiences, securing Finland its first-ever Eurovision victory with a record-breaking 292 points. This triumph propelled them to unprecedented global attention, with the single topping charts across Europe and the ensuing "The Arockalypse" album going multi-platinum. They capitalized on this success with extensive worldwide touring and even starred in their own horror-comedy film, Dark Floors.

In the years since their Eurovision win, Lordi has maintained a prolific and consistent output, treating each new album cycle as an opportunity to evolve their monstrous mythology. Mr Lordi meticulously redesigns the band's costumes and character backstories for every release, from "Deadache" to "Scare Force One," "Monstereophonic," and beyond. Despite numerous changes in the masked lineup behind him, Mr Lordi's creative vision remains the driving force. The band continues to record and tour internationally, celebrating their legacy while introducing their unique brand of horror rock to new generations of fans, forever upholding their creed that it is perfectly acceptable to love a monsterman.
