Gloria de los Ángeles Treviño Ruiz, known to the world as Gloria Trevi, is a Mexican singer-songwriter whose career has been defined by both monumental artistic achievements and a dramatic, highly publicized personal saga. Born on February 15, 1968, in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Trevi has sold over 20 million records worldwide, cementing her status as one of the best-selling Latin music artists in history. Rolling Stone has dubbed her the "Mexican Queen of Pop," a title that reflects her emotional lyrical style, electrifying performances, and profound influence on the Latin music landscape.

Trevi's journey began at age 15 when she moved to Mexico City to study performing arts at Televisa's Centro de Educación Artística. In 1984, she met record producer Sergio Andrade, who incorporated her into the girl group Boquitas Pintadas. The group disbanded after one unsuccessful album, but Trevi's determination led her to track down Andrade and record a demo in Los Angeles. This persistence resulted in her 1989 debut album, ¿Qué Hago Aquí?, which featured the breakthrough single "Dr. Psiquiatra" and launched her into stardom. Throughout the 1990s, she released a string of successful albums, including Tu Ángel de la Guarda (1991), Me Siento Tan Sola (1992), Más Turbada Que Nunca (1994), and Si Me Llevas Contigo (1995). Hits like "Pelo Suelto," "Zapatos Viejos," and "Con los Ojos Cerrados" solidified her reputation as a sex symbol and pop icon, bringing her international fame. In 1997, however, she abruptly retired from public life alongside Andrade.

The ensuing years were marked by the Trevi–Andrade scandal. A complaint filed in Chihuahua alleged sexual abuse, corruption of minors, and forced labor, following the disappearance of 17-year-old Karina Yapor and other young women. In January 2000, Trevi and Andrade were arrested in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She spent nearly five years in pre-trial detention, first in Brazil and then in Mexico after extradition. In 2004, she was tried and acquitted, while Andrade was convicted. Her life and career have been dramatized in the 2014 biographical film Gloria and the 2023 television series Gloria Trevi: Ellas soy yo.

Following her acquittal, Trevi staged a remarkable comeback. She achieved four number-one albums on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart, including Gloria (2011) and El Amor (2015). Her singles "Todos Me Miran," "Cinco Minutos," and "No Querías Lastimarme" became major hits, and she established herself as one of the top Latin touring acts of the 21st century. Her accolades include the BMI Latin President's Award in 2016, induction into the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2018, and the Legend Award at the Hispanic Heritage Awards in 2025.
