Drew Taggart Biography

news-detailsDrew Taggart is an American DJ, producer, singer, and songwriter best known as one half of the electronic music duo The Chainsmokers. Alongside his partner Alex Pall, Taggart has helped define the sound of mainstream EDM-pop in the 2010s and 2020s, earning a Grammy Award and establishing the duo as one of the highest-paid acts in electronic music.

Taggart grew up in Freeport, Maine, where he developed an early interest in music and learned to play guitar and piano. He attended Syracuse University, where he studied music business, and later moved to New York City to pursue a career in electronic music. In 2012, he was introduced to Alex Pall through his future manager, and the two formed The Chainsmokers, initially building a following by releasing remixes of songs by indie artists.

The duo achieved their commercial breakthrough in 2014 with the song "#Selfie," which became a top-20 single in several countries and brought them widespread attention. Their debut EP, Bouquet, arrived in October 2015 and featured the single "Roses," which reached the top 10 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The following year proved pivotal: "Don't Let Me Down," featuring Daya, became their first top-five single on the Billboard chart and won the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording at the 59th ceremony, while "Closer," featuring Halsey, became their first number-one single on the Billboard chart. Their second EP, Collage, was released in November 2016.

In April 2017, The Chainsmokers released their debut studio album, Memories...Do Not Open, which topped the US Billboard 200 chart and produced the top-10 singles "Paris" and "Something Just Like This," the latter a collaboration with Coldplay. Their second album, Sick Boy, followed in December 2018, and their third studio album, World War Joy, was released in December 2019 and debuted at number one on the Billboard Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart.

Beyond recording, Taggart and Pall have built a reputation as a formidable live act, headlining major festivals and launching their own event brand. According to Forbes' 2019 list of highest-paid celebrities, The Chainsmokers were the highest-paid DJs in the world, dethroning Calvin Harris after six years at the top.

The duo continued releasing music into the 2020s, with their fourth studio album, So Far So Good, arriving on May 13, 2022, followed by their fifth studio album, Summertime Friends, on October 20, 2023. In 2024, they released their third EP, No Hard Feelings. Throughout their career, The Chainsmokers have won a Grammy Award, two American Music Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards, and nine iHeartRadio Music Awards. Taggart remains the duo's primary vocalist and a central creative force behind their genre-blending sound, which continues to shape the landscape of electronic pop music.
