**Independence Day: Resurgence** is an upcoming 2016 American science fiction action film directed by Roland Emmerich and starring Liam Hemsworth, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Travis Tope, William Fichtner, and Sela Ward. The sequel to the 1996 film Independence Day, the film follows the events of the first film as the Earth faces a new alien invasion. The film has been in development since 2011, and filming began in April 2015 in Vancouver, British Columbia. A viral video released in March 2016 shows a group of people discussing conspiracy theories about the film, including the possibility that the aliens are actually from Earth.
