'Smash' to Cut Four Stars in Season 2
May 23, 2012 08:05:43When "Smash" returns with its second season, viewers will have to bid goodbye to four characters. Reports say season 1 regulars Raza Jaffrey, Brian d'Arcy James and Jaime Cepero, as well as recurring guest star Will Chase will leave the show.
Jaffrey portrays Karen's (Katharine McPhee) cheating fiance who was dumped by the Broadway star in the season finale. James plays Julia's (Debra Messing) husband, who saw his wife comforting her former flame Michael (Chase) in the last episode.

The movie star prompts an argument between her and Karen's boyfriend Dev during a dinner, and admits in front of Derek that she wants to get rid off Karen.

Katharine McPhee excitedly tweeted "Yes!" after the renewal announcement was made, while her co-star Megan Hilty re-tweeted a post from her fan, "We're getting a season 2!!!!!!!!"
As for Raza Jaffrey, the Dev Sundaram depicter wrote a longer note than those of his two female co-stars. The on-screen boyfriend of McPhee graciously posted on his own page, "Thanks for all kind words of delight + support for announcement @NBCSmash Season2. The singer playing Nate in "Camp Rock" will reprise his role as Lyle West, a sitcom star who began his career as a child actor in a Broadway production, in the season finale that will air May 14.
When previously asked if he will return for another guest stint, Jonas said, "I think that there has been talk about it, but I haven't really heard an official word yet... If they do have me back it really provides an opportunity for him to get deeper into it and kind of dig in and get more involved." In the February outing, his character Lyle struck a deal with Eileen to become an investor in the Marilyn Monroe musical.

"Thank God for 'Glee,' because they really opened doors for our show, specifically, to make it possible for us to do this," so says the former Glinda depicter on Broadway play "Wicked".
