CBS Drops Lawsuit Against 'Glass House', Says Viewers Have Delivered Justice
August 18, 2012 10:08:12CBS is no longer pursuing a legal action to stop the production of ABC's "The Glass House" after the show delivers low ratings. "The viewers have spoken and delivered the ultimate form of justice against 'The Glass House'," so the Eye said in a statement released on Friday, August 17. "As a result, we filed in federal court this morning a voluntary dismissal without prejudice of our claims against ABC."
However, CBS will continue with its lawsuit against the "Glass House" producers. "The contract and trade secrets claims against former 'Big Brother' producers for violating their confidentiality agreements will continue separately in arbitration," the network added.

Judge Denies CBS' Efforts to Block 'The Glass House' Premiere
June 16, 2012 08:06:06ABC has scored the first win in "The Glass House" case against CBS. On Friday, June 15, U.S. District Judge Gary A. Feess denied the Eye's request for temporary restraining order (TRO) that could block the show's premiere, meaning that the Alphabet can launch the new reality series as planned on Monday, June 18.
Saying a TRO could be very anti-competitive, the judge didn't see that CBS' claim of copyright infringement is strong enough. "CBS has not persuaded us that it will succeed on its claims" in a full trial, so he stated. While admitting there are similarities between the two shows, he thought they are generic ideas and "cannot be copyrighted."

ABC Files Opposition in Response to CBS 'Glass House' Restraining Order Request
June 12, 2012 11:06:54As expected, ABC filed its opposition to CBS' temporary restraining order (TRO) request in "The Glass House" case on Monday, June 11. In a document filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, the defendant urges Judge Gary Allen Feess not to halt the reality show's premiere.
In the 31-page filing, the Alphabet says that the Eye "seeks a wholly unprecedented restraining order based on the alleged misappropriation of processes and techniques already well known to everyone who has ever worked in reality television." The defendant further claims that there's no "secret process" obtained from CBS by hiring people who previously worked on "Big Brother".

Judge Denies ABC's Efforts to Slow Down CBS 'Glass House' Restraining Order Request
June 09, 2012 12:06:18ABC's attempts to slow down CBS's request for temporary restraining order against "The Glass House" have turned to no avail. On Friday, June 8, U.S. District Judge Gary Allen Feess denied the Alphabet's request for more time to respond to the Eye's TRO request, and asked the defendants' legal team to file an official response by 5 P.M. on Monday, June 11.
Previously on late Thursday, CBS filed a TRO to shut down the production of ABC's new reality show and block the premiere, which is currently scheduled for June 18. Responding to the court filing, the Alphabet stated it "is a naked attempt by CBS to stifle competition and creativity by claiming that reality techniques that have been developed over many years, on many shows by countless producers, are somehow exclusive to CBS."
