Early in the morning, Alex is getting ready for a business meeting while Whitney prepares some coffee. Suddenly, Alex finds himself in "the mood." He tries to get Whitney to play along, but she's not having it. Whitney asks Alex how he could be aroused, considering that they just did it last night... unless Alex faked it. Alex dodges the question, and Whitney is appalled. Guys can do that?

After Alex briefly explains that guys can and will sometimes fake an orgasm, Whitney gets a little upset and suggests that Alex shouldn't tell her the truth if it will hurt her feelings. Instead, she'd rather he just lie to her. Alex says that he lies to her all the time, so they agree to exchange lies that they've told each other. Eventually, Whitney and Alex decide that they shouldn't keep any more secrets from each other.

Later, Roxanne and Lily are hanging out at Mark's new bar. Mark introduces the girls to his new bartender, R.J. Mark doesn't know much about the bar business, and R.J. is just the guy to show Mark the ropes. His first tip: get rid of the wall clock so that patrons will stay longer. Whitney and Alex show up and explain their new philosophy on honesty.

Lily immediately brings up a secret that she assumes Whitney came clean on: the weekend that Whitney and Alex met, Whitney faked being in a coma so she wouldn't have to hang out with Alex again. It quickly becomes clear that Whitney did not confess that secret, and Alex is hurt and confused. He and Whitney step outside to talk about it. This origin story might be best portrayed in a flashback.

In a flashback, we see Alex and Whitney on the first weekend they met. After spending two straight days together, Whitney needs to leave. Alex tries to arrange for another date that night, but Whitney refuses, claiming she has something to do. She's clearly lying, and when Alex questions her further, she tells him that she was in a coma for five days.

Back in the present, Alex points out the stupidity of Whitney's lie. Alex asks Whitney why she kept the lie going for four years, and she responds that only an insane person would lie about being in a coma. Alex says this will take a while to get over, because Whitney being in a coma would explain a lot about her. Lily interrupts to apologize for blowing Whitney's secret. In the process, she spoils another of Whitney's big secrets: she was dating someone when she met Alex.

Whitney explains that she had been dating a guy for a year and a half when she met Alex, and she broke up with him two days after her weekend with Alex. Whitney says that she panicked and didn't know what to do because she had never been with someone who cared about her. Still upset, Alex storms back into the bar, then comes out a few moments later to give Whitney her coat.

Alex returns with a confession of his own. He went out with another girl the weekend that Whitney was out of town "getting an MRI" for her fake coma. Whitney is offended, and she and Alex are both disgusted with themselves. They decide that it's okay to keep some secrets from each other.

After closing up the bar, Mark and R.J. have a bonding moment. It looks like Mark found the perfect person to help him run his bar. This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
