Whitney Episode 2.02 Poor Whitney

Whitney is stressing out while trying to figure out her monthly bills. After adding all of her expenses, she announces that she's in a jam this month. Alex offers to take on some of Whitney's financial burden by suggesting that they open a joint checking account. Thinking she's now rich, Whitney is relieved. She promises Alex that she's getting her financial act together.

Mark calls the gang to a bar to announce that he's quitting the police force to become the owner of the very bar that the gang is currently standing in. Whitney is excited, and the others reluctantly come around to favor Mark's plan. Roxanne has been feeling weird ever since Mark proclaimed his love for her, but when she tries to talk to him about it, Mark just reassures her that they'll hook up eventually.

Whitney and Alex head to the bank to open a joint checking account. Whitney is nervous that Alex will be appalled by her bank account balance, but the reality is actually the opposite: she has more money than Alex thought she had, and Whitney thought Alex had more money than he actually does. In fact, Whitney thought that Alex was a millionaire.

As much as Alex tries to assure Whitney that they have enough money, Whitney frantically tries to find ways to save money. Alex tells Whitney that he'll have more money as soon as he sells his next idea. Whitney offers to help, but Alex refuses.

Lily criticizes the lack of wifi in Mark's bar, and eventually Mark breaks down and admits that he has no idea what he's doing. Lily tries to calm Mark's nerves by telling him a story about her life, which eventually leads her to break down as well. Nonetheless, Lily's horrible life makes Mark feel better about his own.

The gang has just finished splitting a meal at Mark's bar. Alex offers to pick up the check, but Roxanne refuses. Alex realizes that Whitney told her friends about the bank incident. During the commotion of trying to figure out how to split the bill, Alex hands the waiter his credit card to pay for the meal, but he's upset at Whitney for embarrassing him.

Whitney arrives home to find that Alex has splurged on a collection of high-priced items. He's eating expensive sushi; he bought expensive sunglasses, and he's hired a maid. Whitney is appalled, but Alex is hell-bent on proving to Whitney that he has money to spare.

Whitney and Alex go to an art gallery, so that Whitney can try to get a job. Whitney pilfers the food table before meeting with the gallery director to ask for a job. Unfortunately, there are no openings. Alex tells the gallery director that he'd like to purchase an $800 photo just to prove to Whitney that he has money.

At home, Alex explains to Whitney that her panic over their finances means that Whitney has no faith in him and doesn't believe that he'll be able to sell another idea. Whitney doesn't think Alex has been working, but Alex explains that ideas can come to him at any time. Whitney tells Alex that she believes in him, even though she may not act like it sometimes.

Whitney and Alex walk up to an ATM to take money out of their joint account for the first time. Whitney makes a fuss over the three-dollar transaction fee and scolds the ATM camera before taking the money. After she walks away, Alex apologizes to the ATM.
