After finding Will in a Dharavi warehouse just barely alive, Magnus, Kate and Ravi (Shaker Paleja), rush him back to the Mumbai Sanctuary for emergency treatment. Hallucinating and drifting in and out of consciousness, Will continues to call out to Kali, the beautiful woman in his visions, in English and in Hindi.
Magnus has informed the team of the existence of the Makri, a very small and extremely rare species of Abnormal spider. The Makri selects someone to be its "host" in order to communicate telepathically with its genetic cousin...an extremely powerful Abnormal capable of causing astounding natural disasters. Ravi is shocked to hear that this Abnormal is still alive and a threat as Magnus had reported to her colleagues in the Sanctuary Network that she had killed it four years earlier as a preventative measure.
Magnus deduces that the Makri was embedded in the statue that Will found and unnoticed, entered his body while he slept. Choosing Will as its host, the Makri is the cause of his illness, and the inspiration for his visions of the beautiful Kali...a direct link to the all-powerful Abnormal.
But there is no sign of the Makri in Will's body now, leading them to believe that someone who knew its power captured Will and forcefully took the Makri from him. More shocking is the revelation that, once the Makri leaves the host's body, he will die in a matter of days.
Magnus, Kate, Ravi and, by satellite, Henry and Bigfoot try to figure out who would know about the Makri and its connections. It would have to be someone who could understand the Cult of Kali and have a deep understanding of the Abnormal world. Frustrated, worried, and angry, Magnus demands to know who could be taking control of the most dangerous Abnormal on Earth.
Although on the outside Will remains unconscious, his mind is active, desperately trying to find Kali, and hearing her call to him. In his visions, she informs him that in order to find her, he must dance the rapati sungu for her. If he does as she asks, she will come to him.
Suddenly, Magnus hears the urgent beeping of medical equipment from Will's room. She breaks into a run down the corridor and enters the infirmary only to find Will's bed empty, his IVs torn out. A Sanctuary guard is unconscious on the floor and the door to the outside is wide open. Will is gone.
As Ravi and Kate head back out into the streets of Mumbai in search of Will, Magnus finds herself under attack by various members of the Network, angry that she hid the existence of the Abnormal from them for so long. She becomes acutely aware that her position as Head of the Sanctuary Network is in serious jeopardy.
While a desperate Kate and Ravi search the streets for Will, Henry and Magnus race against the clock to find whoever is responsible for awakening the Makri and its cousin, and setting in motion the events that could lead to a worldwide catastrophic natural disaster.
