The CBI team investigates the murder of a female soldier whose body is found dead in an alley near a military base. The victim worked as a medic in an army hospital, and spent a lot of her time acting as a 'battle buddy' for wounded soldiers with cognitive impairments and PTSD. Jane catches a break when he learns that a friend of the victim called 911 and may have even seen the murder occur, but the witness has severe memory issues and can't remember anything from the night in question. The team also learns that a few of the soldiers in the victim's unit had an axe to grind, suspecting her of lodging an anonymous sexual harrasment claim against a popular officer.
