The seven remaining chefs are hoping to redeem themselves after a tough night of service. Chef Ramsay gives them 30 minutes to prepare three stunning dishes from the regular Hell's Kitchen menu. But, of course, there's a catch.

During this Communication Relay Challenge, only one team member will be in the kitchen at a time. Each chef will cook for five minutes, and then the next chef will take over. During the switch, they will have 15 seconds to communicate the status of the dishes. The second person continues cooking where the first left off. The team with the best dishes wins.

Justin and Dana are the first up. The menu is risotto, lamb, and cod. Since all three items have very different cooking times, it's vital that the first chef has a strong game plan, laying out which ingredients to start first.

After their five minutes are up, Justin and Dana have 15 seconds to update Clemenza and Christina. When they run out of time, Barbie and Brian take over. In the fourth round, Dana tries to keep things moving in the Red Kitchen, while Robyn burns the cod and must start again.

With two rounds and ten minutes remaining, Robyn hands off to Justin, and Dana gives the reins to Christina. Justin finds raw lamb and cod, while Christina discovers burned risotto.

Barbie and Clemenza are the last chefs in the final round. They rush to get the dishes to the pass. With the cooking complete, Chef Ramsay will determine which team was more precise with the dishes.

The Red Team's risotto is burned, and the Blue Team's is crunchy. Neither team gets the point. In round two, the Blue Team's fish is missing the broth, while the Red Team gives Chef Ramsay raw cod. Again no points are awarded.

With the score at zero to zero, the final lamb dish will determine the winner of the challenge. Chef Ramsay says that the Blue Team's sauce tastes like it came from a gas station, and the Red Team fares no better. For the first time ever in Hell's Kitchen history, Chef Ramsay does not pick a winner in the challenge.

That means that neither team gets to experience the challenge's reward: a helicopter ride to Santa Monica and a private beach party Malibu. Instead, all the chefs must stay and clean the front of Hell's Kitchen, detail the SUVs, and prepare the kitchen for the night's guests.

Before dinner service begins, Chef Ramsay presents the chefs with inspiration, showing them the Hell's Kitchen black jacket. The contestants who make it through tonight will be given the coveted chef's coat, become one of the final six, and move on to the next stage of the competition.

Thanks to Clemenza and Justin, the Blue Team is off and running. Meanwhile, in the Red Kitchen, Christina sends up her first risotto for Chef Ramsay's approval. While it's seasoned perfectly, she puts too much on the plate. She narrowly avoids a major misstep when she almost puts the extra perfectly cooked risotto back in the pan with a batch that's not quite done. Chef Ramsay catches her before she makes the error. Despite this glitch, diners on the Red Side are appreciating their appetizers.

On the Blue Side, Chef Ramsay is looking to Justin and Clemenza to keep up the excellent pace they have had on their apps. But when Clemenza gets an order for five risottos on one table, he prepares them in three pans, causing them to be inconsistent.

In the Red Kitchen, Barbie is determined to help Christina out with appetizers, even though she doesn't want the assistance. When Chef Ramsay sends her risotto back, it's clear she should have accepted the help. With Christina quickly bouncing back on appetizers, food is again going out to Red Diners, and the Red Team moves on to entrees.

Clemenza finally delivers his risotto in the Blue Kitchen, and the pressure shifts to Brian on the meat station as they move on to entrees. But when he delivers inconsistent Wellingtons he must start again.

Robyn puts her garnish in the oven to keep it warm rather than starting fresh. When she blames her teammates for telling her it's a warming oven, the Blue Kitchen erupts. Despite the argument about cooking fresh spinach, Justin delivers reheated bass to the pass.

While the Blue Team's diners have been waiting for over an hour for entrees, patrons on the Red side are having a pleasant experience. The women are moving quickly toward the finish line, as the Red Team moves on to desserts.

Over in the Blue Kitchen the chefs have not yet delivered one entrée. Diners begin to walk out as Brian brings an overcooked Wellington to the pass. Chef Ramsay pulls Barbie off desserts in the Red Kitchen and asks her to show Brian how to cook a Wellington on the Blue Side. With Barbie coming to the rescue in the Blue Kitchen, grateful diners are receiving food again.

When service is finally complete, Chef Ramsay gathers the women on the Red Team for a celebration and gives them all black jackets. Over in the Blue Kitchen he reprimands the chefs for an embarrassing evening. He sends them to the dorm to choose two chefs who don't deserve a black jacket.

They return to the dining room and nominate Robyn. Then they tell Chef Ramsay that they could not agree on a second nominee. He asks all four chefs to step forward. All the chefs plead their cases about why they deserve a black jacket. In the end, Brian is sent home.
