The New York Times best-selling author made use of her social media account to shade the prestigious event, suggesting that it's no longer 'chic and classy.'

AceShowbiz - Katherine Schwarzenegger doesn't seem to be disappointed for not being invited to the 2024 Met Gala. If anything, the New York Times best-selling author made use of her social media account to shade the prestigious event.

In a since-expired Instagram Stories post, Katherine shared a throwback photo of her mother Maria Shriver when attending the annual bash hosted by Vogue magazine 23 years ago. "When the met gala was chic and classy," the daughter of Arnold Schwarzenegger wrote in the caption.

Meanwhile, Maria wrote in her post, "It's the first Monday in May and the Met Gala is underway! Things were a little more low key when I attended back in 2001, but I thought I would share some photos from that wonderful night."

The former First Lady of California, who donned a lavender boat neck gown with a matching sheer shawl at the star-studded event, added, "Not only did I get to wear this beautiful dress, but I got to attend with both my parents, as well as my cousin, Caroline. What do you think: would we rock the red carpet in these same looks tonight? #metgalaflashback."

Katherine wasn't the only one who publicly showed dislike to the Met Gala in recent years. Prior to this, an anonymous guest told PEOPLE, "It was a fairly tame carpet. It was the most boring and least exciting gala than in years past."

Of this year's theme, "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion," the guest added, "The theme could have been exciting but other than Tyla, who killed it in the sand dress, the dresses were not as mesmerizing or crazy or outlandish, and it was a little slow - and less star power. There was no Rihanna of [Taylor Swift]."

The guest then slammed Zendaya Coleman's second outfit change, calling it a "gimmick" of the night. They added, "Kim Kardashian's sweater didn't do the trick."

The anonymous attendee continued, "When you compare it to the years [Vogue editor-in-chief] Anna [Wintour] would stay at the top of the staircase to watch Lady GaGa's entrance in an outfit that covered her head to toe and she was surrounded by men in black suits with black umbrellas as she changed and ended up in a thong bathing suit - that was exciting. Or when Katy Perry came to the 'camp'-themed gala with a chandelier on her head. In years past, it was more outlandish and more exciting."
