AceShowbiz - The iconic "door" from James Cameron's blockbuster film "Titanic" has sold for an astonishing $718,750 at auction. It surpassed other sought-after items like Indiana Jones' bullwhip and Jack Nicholson's ax.

The prop, which is actually part of the door frame above the ship's first-class lounge entrance, became a symbol of sacrifice and love in the 1997 film. In a pivotal scene, Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet) and Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio) struggle to climb onto the floating wood panel after the "Titanic" sinks. Jack ultimately sacrifices his own life, allowing Rose to survive.

Despite director James Cameron's insistence that Jack's death was unavoidable, the "door" has remained a subject of debate among fans. Some argue that it could have accommodated both characters, leading Cameron to commission a scientific study in 2022. The study concluded that, based on the size of the prop and the physical characteristics of the stunt actors used, it was impossible for both Rose and Jack to have survived.

However, the question of how the couple could have avoided Jack's death continues to captivate fans. The auction's listing even joked that the item could have fetched an even higher price if Rose had "shuffled over" to make room for Jack.

The sale of the "door" is part of a larger auction of Planet Hollywood memorabilia, including several other Titanic relics. The auctioneer described the prop as "the goodbye" and emphasized its significance in transforming the film from an adventurous love story to a tragic love story reminiscent of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet."

Despite the exorbitant price, the winner of the auction remains a mystery, known only as "Mr. Green". The winning bid was part of a bidding war that saw the price soar over $700,000 in just six minutes.
