In addition to starring as Robert Hendy-Freegard, the 'McMafia' star has also taken on the role of the executive producer to the project about the fake MI5 agent.

AceShowbiz - Actor James Norton has been cast to play real-life British con artist Robert Hendy-Freegard in a new film.

"Chasing Agent Freegard" will centre on the conman, who pretended to be a MI5 agent and convinced several people into going underground to avoid assassination by the Irish Republican Army (IRA).

The "McMafia" star will also add executive producer to his resume with the new project, which will be developed under his Rabbit Track Pictures company.

A director has yet to be announced and it is unclear when it will go into production, but the film will be introduced to buyers later this year (2019), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Norton, who is a fan favourite to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond, is also working on director Greta Gerwig's new "Little Women (2019)" movie adaptation.

Last year (2018), he bowed out of his beloved role as crime-solving clergyman Sidney Chambers on British TV drama "Grantchester".
