'Mission: Impossible - Fallout': Tom Cruise Shares Footage of How He Broke His Ankle on Set
Movie

TV host Graham Norton repeatedly warns viewers that it's not for the squeamish before playing behind-the-scenes footage of the stunt that required Cruise to leap from one building to another.

AceShowbiz - Tom Cruise broke his ankle on the set of "Mission: Impossible - Fallout" in August last year and now we've got a close-up look at how it happened. Cruise and co-stars Henry Cavill, Rebecca Ferguson (II) and Simon Pegg stopped by "The Graham Norton Show" on Friday, January 26 and shared footage of the set accident.

The actor was doing a stunt which required him to leap from one building to another. Cruise said that hitting the wall was part of the stunt. "I was going to run across, and hit the side of the wall and pull myself over. That wasn't the mistake," he explained.

Host Graham Norton pointed out that many online commenters wondered how Cruise broke his ankle instead of his jaw. To show how he broke his foot, Cruise brought footage of the stunt filming from three angles.

"If you are squeamish, don't watch this," Norton warned the audience in the room. "A bone doesn't pop out or anything but it is an odd angle for anyone's foot to be at." Norton marveled at how Cruise managed to run again after hitting the wall.

"I didn't want to do [the stunt] again," Cruise said. "I knew it was broken and I just said 'Ugh,' and I ran past the camera. We got the shot, it's in the movie. That profile shot, both those shots, are in the movie." Pegg then joked, "Everyone said, when you got up and ran out of shot, 'Oh, that's so him.' "

Asked if his injury is fully healed, Cruise said, "It's still broken but I'm doing well. It's not fully healed but we are shooting and we have a release date so I just have to keep going." He added, "I spent eight to 10 hours a day, seven days a week in rehab because we still have some major stunts to do."

As reported before, filming was put on hold for seven weeks following Cruise's injury. He was back on the set to film more action scenes for the film in October last year, but it was postponed again because Cruise's ankle had not healed properly. The production eventually resumed earlier this month.

In other news, Cruise took to his Instagram account to share another new photo from the upcoming movie. It shows him leaping from a dangerously high scaffolding toward the edge of a building. "Get ready for the most thrilling mission yet...," he captioned it.
