The horror film, which is produced by Blumhouse, has 'The Groundhog Day'-esque premise, in which the character relives the same day over and over again.
Blumhouse has released the first teaser for horror flick "Happy Death Day". The movie follows Jessica Rothe as a college student, who "relives the day of her murder with both its unexceptional details and terrifying end until she discovers her killer's identity."
The teaser opens with Rothe's character waking up in a dorm room. It is followed with a scene where she is getting ready for her birthday party. However, her birthday turns into a death day when she is stabbed by a masked murderer. The end of the teaser shows a cake with terrifying words "Happy Death Day" written on it.
The movie is directed by Christopher Landon, who also helmed "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones" and "Scout's Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse". Blumhouse, which nabbed a satisfying commercial success thanks to "Get Out", "Split" and "The Purge" franchise, produces "Happy Death Day".
Like Zoey Deutch-starring "Before I Fall", "Happy Death Day" has "The Groundhog Day"-esque premise, in which the main character wakes up on the same day over and over again for a certain reason. The premise was popularized by Bill Murray-starring "The Groundhog Day" in 1993 and was also used in Tom Cruise's movie "Edge of Tomorrow".
Also starring in Happy Death Day are Israel Broussard, Ruby Modine, Rachel Matthews, Charles Aitken, Jason Bayle and Phi Vu. The movie is set to hit U.S. theaters on October 13.
