Series creator Chris Carter says FOX wants more episodes 'if we can figure out how to get it done,' but 'nothing's being negotiated yet.'

AceShowbiz - "The X-Files" revival ended with a major cliffhanger in the finale as it left a character's life hanging in the balance. While the episode tagline declared "this is the end," the ending made fans believe that there would more episodes.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about the finale, series creator Chris Carter says, " 'The X-Files' traditionally ended with a cliffhanger, and we didn't want to do anything different. This just happens to be a very big cliffhanger. I have an idea of where the story goes."
People have flooded Twitter with reactions to the cliffhanger. Carter responds, "I think that hardcore fans of the show just expect nothing less than this and I think-I hope-people aren't confused. I hope that it was not a confusing ending." He additionally tells E! News, "If it was perplexing or alarming, I would prefer it to be that."
Carter is also open to a possibility of more "X-Files" episodes. "They're going to ask for more. The ratings were very good. They were happy with the show," he says, before adding, "I talked to Dana Walden today. She said they'd very much like more, but nothing's being negotiated yet."
In the penultimate episode, Lauren Ambrose and Robbie Amell were introduced as FBI agents Einstein and Miller who are basically younger versions of Scully and Mulder. There was speculation that these two new characters would be getting a spin-off series. Carter, however, says there are no talks about a potential spin-off yet.
"I really love those guys. They're terrific actors, and excellent to work with," he says, "It would be nice to include them. But, at the same time, we didn't make series deals with them. I can't imagine they're not going to be scooped up and be somewhat unavailable to us. It will just be practical about how we're able to work with them in the future."
