'Blindspot' Boss Talks About the Tattoo Reveal Twist and the Kiss in Fall Finale

In the midseason finale, Jane finally learns who tattooed her body and it's going to complicate her relationship with Weller.

AceShowbiz - "Blindspot" brought viewers up and down in its fall finale. [SPOILER ALERT!] After giving a glimmer of hope for Jane and Weller's romance by showing them kissing, the show hints at how it may not turn well for the pair as Jane learns who tattooed her body and it's shocking.

The person responsible for Jane's tattoos is none other than Jane herself. She finds out about it via a videotaped iPhone message from her past self to her present self. Jane gets the video from a man who has been following her, Oscar. Oscar also saves Jane when CIA director Tom Carter kidnaps and tortures her in hopes that Jane would remember something about her past, shooting Carter to help Jane.

Speaking to various outlets, series creator Martin Gero says it's the idea since the beginning to reveal Jane as the mastermind behind her mystery tattoos. Asked why the twist was included in the fall finale, he says, "It wasn't something I wanted to hold until the end of the first season, and you'll see why in the back half of the season. It invigorates the show in a really great way. It doesn't reinvent the wheel necessarily, but it augments in a way that the show feels like it's growing and not stalling out."

The shocking reveal does raise a new question: what's Jane's agenda with this plan? "I think the old Jane definitely has a plan, and a dangerous one at that," Gero coyly addresses Jane's motives. "How that plays out is a big part of the rest of the show. I think what's fun is now Jane reconciling who she was in the past versus who she is now."

Now that the bond between Jane and Weller has been stronger, the reveal will definitely affect their relationship. But viewers may not see the impact on their dynamic immediately when the show returns as Jane won't tell him right away. "I think she wants to play it out a little bit before she decides not to tell him," Gero teases.

Teasing how the twist will change the story, Gero shares, "This [new information] allows her to play stuff, and it adds a whole layer to the show that is super exciting. It allows us to clarify some of the mystery while adding new parts to it, and it complicates her relationship with the team and with Weller, but in a really fun and beautiful way."

On who Oscar is, Gero dishes, "He's more than just her boyfriend. He's a full member of this organization of which Jane seems to be the leader. He knows a lot. He knows almost everything." He adds, "And I think that's what's so intoxicating about him for her. [First], she actually remembers somebody that she has a concrete connection to, which is a first for her. And second, he has the playbook. How much he's willing to give to her is another thing. They're going to have to re-learn to trust each other. But he's got all the parts."

Gero also hints that the presence of Oscar, Jane's ex-boyfriend, may create a love triangle involving Jane and Weller.
