AceShowbiz - Disney is developing a new "Mary Poppins" movie with Rob Marshall ("Into the Woods") set to direct. Insiders say the new "Mary Poppins" will take place in London two decades after the first film which starred Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. The story will be based on P.L. Travers' children books focusing on the magical nanny's continued adventures with the Banks family.

David Magee is writing the screenplay while Tunesmiths Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman are in the works for original songs for the pic. Producers are John DeLuca and Marc Plat, who also worked with Rob in "Into the Woods".

The original 1964 movie focused on a nanny who came to work for a banker's unhappy family in pre-World War I England. It grossed $100 million at the box office and earned five Oscars including one for Julie as best actress.

Rob's "Into the Woods" was also a huge hit, grossing $199 million worldwide and earned Meryl Streep an Oscar nomination.
