After filming the pilot, Parker tried to convince HBO to release her from her contract because she was reluctant to star on a TV series.

AceShowbiz - Sarah Jessica Parker almost lost her chance to hit stardom with "Sex and the City". It has just been revealed that the actress once refused to star on the HBO series which has catapulted her to fame.

According to Broadway veteran Seth Rudetsky, Parker "was reluctant to do the pilot because she didn't really want to do a series. However, she loved the script, so she filmed it and then forgot about it."

In a column he wrote for Playbill, Rudetsky further revealed that months later, the show was picked up to series, but Parker wanted to get out of her contract. "She really didn't want to be tied down to one job because she loved going from gig to gig and being, what she called, a 'journeyman,' " Rudetsky wrote.

She even "tried various ways to get out of it including telling HBO that she would film three projects for free if they'd release her from her contract!" Rudetsky added. In the end, HBO convinced her to honor her deal and she agreed to do it. Now that the show has been one of the biggest TV hits, "she now has no regrets. She loved playing Carrie Bradshaw."

Rudetsky went on revealing that another "SATC" movie might be happening. "She told us that there may be a project coming up involving all the ladies," he dished.

"Sex and the City" ran from 1998 until 2004. It won seven of its 54 Emmy Award nominations and has been listed as one of Time magazine's 100 Best TV Shows of All-TIME. The latest film "Sex and the City 2" which was released in 2010, however, received mostly negative reviews.
