'Jack Reacher 2' to Start Filming in November

A sequel to the 2012 thriller flick starring Tom Cruise will be helmed by 'The Last Samurai' director Ed Zwick.

AceShowbiz - Tom Cruise will begin filming "Jack Reacher 2" in November, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Cruise will reprise his role as a drifter and former U.S. Army Military Police Corps officer in the sequel directed by Ed Zwick ("The Last Samurai).

Paramount and Skydance, partners on "Mission: Impossible" and "Jack Reacher" franchises, intend to release it in late 2016. Paramount previously hesitated at making a sequel but the movie, based on popular book series by Lee Childs, ended up turning a profit thanks to ancillary markets.

According to a previous report, Zwick and producer Marshall Herkovitz would team up to rewrite a new draft of Richard Wenk's previous screenplay. Richard wrote the draft of the script based on book "Never Go Back", the eighteenth book in "Jack Reacher" series. Christopher McQuarrie, who wrote and helmed the first movie, will executive produce the sequel along with Cruise and Don Granger.

Cruise is nearly done filming another upcoming thriller film "Mena", directed by Doug Liman ("Edge of Tomorrow"). Before "Mena" opens at U.S. theaters on January 6, 2017, Paramount wants the 53-year-old actor to shoot "Mission: Impossible 6" during summer 2016 for a 2017 release.

Rentrak analyst Paul Dergarabedian says of Tom, "He will capitalize on this and so will the studios, who will all want to continue to work with him."
