AceShowbiz - How Nicolas Cage would've looked like as Superman is revealed as never-before-seen footage from Tim Burton's "Superman Lives", which never saw the light of day, has landed online. Making its way out via Los Angeles Times, the footage will be featured in upcoming documentary "The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?".

The footage sees Cage trying on his Superman suit created by Oscar-winning designer Colleen Atwood. "This is great, look at that!" the actor said in the video. He also did several poses in the tight and shiny costume.

Director's assistant Derek Frey says in an interview for the documentary, "Initially I was really struck at how he looked in that suit His physique, It was different than what we had seen before. Obviously he's quite a lean fella, but there was a certain power to him as well. ... They're early tests. It's about the giddiness, the excitement of Tim and Nic, and their passion for it, and their first exploration of the character."

"Superman Lives" was in development in the 1990s with Tim Burton attached as director and Nicolas Cage as the lead actor. However, the project never happened. The documentary from filmmaker Jon Schnepp attempts to find out what derailed the supposedly epic superhero movie.

"The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?" will be available on DVD, Blu-ray and video on demand on July 9. Recently, a trailer for the documentary was released.
