Director Paul Feig Addresses All-Female 'Ghostbusters' Criticisms

Speaking of the nasty comments addressed to him, Feig says he tends to perceive them as 'some of the most vile, misogynistic s**t I've ever seen in my life'.

AceShowbiz - Notwithstanding the negative comments addressed to his upcoming directorial film, the all-female "Ghostbusters", Paul Feig is optimistic about it. The film director addressed all those criticisms during an interview about his new comedy "Spy," premiering at SXSW over the weekend.

"The first wave when you make an announcement like that is overwhelmingly positive. Everyone's so happy and you're like, 'This is great.' Then comes the second wave and you're like, Oh my God. Some of the most vile, misogynistic s**t I've ever seen in my life," Feig commented. "The biggest thing I've heard for the last four months is, 'Thanks for ruining my childhood.' It's going to be on my tombstone when I die. It's so dramatic. Honestly, the only way I could ruin your childhood is if I got into a time machine and went back and made you an orphan."

Feig, furthermore, admitted to always checking the person's profile on Twitter everytime he received negative remarks. On the matter, he opened up, "I figure it's some wacked-out teenager. But almost constantly it's someone who's bio says 'Proud father of two!' And has some high-end job. You're raising children and yet you're bashing me about putting women in my movie?"

Back in October 2014, it was confirmed that Paul Feig would be developing a new "Ghostbusters" reboot with the help of screenwriter Katie Dippold. At that time, Feig confirmed via Twitter, "I'm making a new Ghostbusters & writing it with @katiedippold & yes, it will star hilarious women. That's who I'm gonna call."

The all-female "Ghostbusters" will start shooting in June and star Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Melissa McCarthy among others. Release date hasn't been set just yet.
