Sarah Manchester of Silver Spring, Maryland is only the third contestant to win the big prize on the show.

AceShowbiz - Math teacher Sarah Manchester has just won big on "Wheel of Fortune". The lucky contestant from Silver Spring, Maryland hit the $1 million jackpot in the Wednesday, September 17 episode of the game show.

The middle school teacher earlier won a trip to the Dominican Republic after solving the prize puzzle before advancing to the bonus round. For the final puzzle, she had to solve 12-letter word with the clue "thing" and letters D-G-H-O on board.

Once Manchester gave the correct answer, "Loud Laughter," host Pat Sajak opened the sealed envelope that she had selected at random by spinning a wheel at the beginning of the round. "Can you use a million dollars?" he asked while showing what's inside the envelope. She was joined by her husband, two children and father to celebrate the win. She won a total of $1,017,490 prize.

"This is a once-in-a-lifetime event," said the teacher at Takoma Park Middle School in Montgomery County, Maryland. "I'm just soaking in every minute of it!" The episode was filmed earlier this year and was aired as part of the show's Teacher's Week.

Manchester became the third contestant in the show's history to win the grand prize. The previous million-dollar winners are Michelle Lowenstein in 2008, and Autumn Erhard in 2013.
