'Two and a Half Men' to End After Upcoming Season 12

The Ashton Kutcher-starring series is officially announced to return with 'a season-long event' to bid fans goodbye.

"Two and a Half Men" is announcing its series finale. The long-running show will take a bow with the upcoming 12th season, CBS announces. The creator, Chuck Lorre, "will be creating a season-long event to send it off," said Nina Tassler, the network's chief.

"Chuck is very psyched about this," she told reporters at a news conference in New York. "He's got some great ideas and very big surprises."

When asked if Charlie Sheen would return to the show, the executive made no promise, "I would like to see whatever Chuck would like to." She added, "Chuck knows his show better than me...he has a lot of surprises in store, I don't know if that's one of them."

Sheen headlined the series until season 8. He was fired from the show after a public feud with Lorre and was replaced by Ashton Kutcher. The "No Strings Attached" actor was considered the highest-paid sitcom this past season with a reported paycheck of $700,000 per episode.

Kutcher shares screen with original cast like Jon Cryer and Angus T. Jones, but the latter went from regular to recurring after he called the series "filth" in controversial comments. The show's latest season averaged 9.1 million total viewers, with 2.3 million adults under 50.

Sheen himself is currently playing the lead role on FX's "Anger Management".
