'Transporter' Franchise Gets Reboot Without Jason Statham on Lead
Movie

The upcoming fourth installment of 'Transporter' movie franchise will explore Frank Martin's origin story.

AceShowbiz - The fourth "Transporter" movie is in the works. The Hollywood Reporter learns that this project will be a reboot that is expected to kick off a new trilogy, but will not see Jason Statham reprising his tough guy role as driver/chauffeur Frank Martin.

Created by Luc Besson, the "Transporter" franchise began with the first film released in 2002. "The Transporter 2" followed in 2005, and "Transporter 3" arrived three years later. They grossed over $250 million worldwide combined.

The successful movie series inspired a TV show starring Chris Vance. The first season aired on Cinemax in 2011, while the second one will premiere in fall this year on TNT. The upcoming "Transporter 4" will not pick up where the last movie left off, but tells the origin story instead.

Though leaving "Transporter", Statham will remain busy as ever because he has signed on for another major franchise. Aside from "The Expendables 3" and "Fast and Furious 7", the actor has just been tapped to return for "The Mechanic 2", a sequel to a 2011 remake of the 1972 action thriller of the same name.
