Steven Spielberg's 'Robopocalypse' Gets Release Date, DreamWorks and Fox to Co-Finance

The two studios will join forces to finance the upcoming movie adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson's epic novel, which is slated to arrive in summer 2013.

Steven Spielberg's upcoming directorial project "Robopocalypse" is moving forward with a release date and funding. It has been announced that the movie is set to come out in theaters across the nation on July 3, 2013, just in time for July 4th holiday.

Meanwhile, DreamWorks and Fox have agreed to team up to finance the sci-fi film, which will serve as a big screen adaptation to Daniel H. Wilson's novel of the sama title. Confirming the collaboration of the two studios, Spielberg said, "I am so pleased that Tom Rothman and Jim Gianopulos [co-chairman of Fox Filmed Entertainment] see the exciting opportunities in 'Robopocalypse' that we originally saw when we bought the rights to the book."

DreamWorks and Fox have previously joined forces to produce Spielberg's "Minority Report" which starred Tom Cruise. "We had a successful relationship with them when we made 'Minority Report' and we hope we can deliver another film that will give today's global audiences something thrilling," Spielberg added.

"Robopocalypse" revolves around the human race's attempt to survive an apocalyptic robot uprising. Principal photography is expected to start in early 2012. Disney will handle the domestic distribution, while Fox will release the movie internationally.
