President Obama's Jobs Speech to Conflict With NFL Opener

Barack Obama

The U.S. president initially planned to address Congress on his promised jobs program on September 7, which would conflict with a Republican presidential debate.

After interrupting primetime with his announcement of Osama bin Laden's Death last May, President Obama will once again appear in between night TV programs with his Congressional address. The leader of the United States has agreed to reschedule his speech regarding his promised jobs program to Thursday, September 8.

President Obama initially asked to deliver his speech on Wednesday, September 7, during which a Republican presidential debate in California will also take place. House Speaker John Boehner, however, reportedly rejected Obama's request, saying the next day would be better "so that we can ensure there will be no parliamentary or logistical impediments that might detract from your remarks."

The problem, however, does not end there since on Thursday there will be a primetime opener for NBC's Sunday Night Football. The same event has become the highest-rated program on broadcast television in the 2010-11 season's first half.

It is still not clear whether the NFL would delay the 8:30 P.M. kickoff of the game between the Green Bay Packers and the New Orleans Saints. "We're aware of the situation and are communicating with the NFL," a spokesman for the network said, but NFL spokesman has not released a statement regarding the issue.
