A photo casually posted on her Twitter becomes the subject of controversy after PETA pinpoints how Kim has mishandled the feline.

Kim Kardashian tried to dodge a war with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) by setting the records straight about her picture dangling a cat by its neck. "Pic from my shoot yesterday...good kitty cat!" she wrote beneath a new TwitPic.

Worried that some people may take it the wrong way, the reality show star quickly wrote on her blog that she meant no harm with the feline. "Rest assured, the owner and vet were on set and showed me how to pick him up," Kardashian wrote. "The cat was not harmed in any way and is perfectly fine! I love animals and would never do anything to harm animals."

However PETA was quick to also issue their response. "Kim Kardashian isn't the only person who mistakenly thinks that because a mother cat picks up her kittens by the scruff of the neck that a supportive hand under the rump isn't needed," the org said.

Backing up PETA is the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals L.A. which said, "It is permissible to hold a kitten by his or her scruff for a brief amount of time... [but] the manner in which Ms. Kardashain is holding the kitten could lead others to mishandle animals."

""posted by hooterhorse on Apr 20, 2010 A mother cat also doesn't hold the "kittens" four or five feet off the ground either. Gravity increases the stress on the animal... This obviously is larger than a kitten also! Oops not trust everyone's opinion on what is right or wrong."" Go back to High School, 'Gravity' doesn't change with elevation until about geostationary orbit level where all you have is 'Micro-G'.

I cannot believe that a (so-called) civilized human being would want a cat to be thrown to dogs. What is wrong with this fucking world! But yeah, I think this has been blown out of proportion -- and Kim is gorgeous.

The best way to hold a cat is between the crosshairs of a scoped 22-250.

Get with it people. The animal is going to have adverse effects from Kim holdingh the cat by the scruff and having the picture taken? Dont the stars need to be in a specific alignment in order for the feline to develop arthritis from the event? PETA is looking for media, they so much as admitted it didnt hurt the cat, should have put a supportive hand under the cats rump. But DIDNT hurt it. If any of you is looking to Kim Kardashian for a role model, your going to have bigger problems then how to hold a cat. Making a mountain out of a molehil!

Holding a cat this way is ill advised. Yes, small lightweight cat's can be held that way for a brief moment in time, but not an adult cat. Their weight puts a strain on their muscles. I think Kim shouldn't have held the cat this way. She's setting a poor example.

Never hold a cat without it's hind legs supported! They can develop early arthritis in their hind quarters. Little kittens can sustain this by the mother cat until their several weeks old and then they walk behind and follow the mother cat. When cats are adult sized like the one she's holding? It hastens the threat of arthritis. It is a strain on their spinal cords, hips and leg joints. If there is any doubt from anyone here? Go ask your nearest vet, and ask them in person. Also, never, ever give your cat, pork based products ie ham hotdogs, bologna, ect. Also, canned tuna, chocolate, mushrooms, tomatoes or tomato based products, onions ect. Be kind to your feline friends and feed them cat food and occasional turkey or chicken. Alex (Cat lover and owner for 30 years) PS. If your cat has a hairball problem? Put a little dab of Vaseline on their paw, to help them pass the hairballs. I usually put it on two - three days in a row max. to keep my cats healthy, happy and hairball free!

Too bad you are not as worried about the Human Race as you are a cat. I am an animal lover, but there are limits to everything. Try spending some of that money on feeding the homeless and the hungry in this country instead of concerning yourself with a picture. By the way, How many of you PETA folks actually have pets and take care of them yourself and not pay someone to do it???

I have a male kitty. He is about 9 and sometimes I need to pick him up but he digs his nails into me, so I have to pick him up this way. I do brace his behind, but its the only way to pick him up. His sister you can pick up normally, so don't say this is cruel.
