Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty picked up an honorary degree at England's Leeds Metropolitan University on Wednesday July 18th.
Shilpa Shetty is now Dr. Shilpa Shetty. The Bollywood actress has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the Leeds Metropolitan University on Wednesday July 18th for the "dignity and poise" that she showed during the "Celebrity Big Brother" racism row early this year.
"My parents always wanted me to be a graduate and today it has been realized with the Leeds Metropolitan University conferring the degree, Doctor of Arts, on me," said the 32-year-old beauty upon receiving the honor, adding that "I am extremely humbled and honored".
With her being conferred an Honorary Doctorate, Miss Shetty thus becoming the youngest actor from the Indian film industry to get the honor, joining her seniors, like Amitabh Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, and Yash Chopra.
Shetty, an actress and supermodel, was crowned the winner of the British "Celebrity Big Brother" on January 28, 2007 with of the final vote, after an international racism controversy involving her and fellow contestants Jade Goody, Jo O'Meara and Danielle Lloyd.
