"Training Day" star Ethan Hawke will topline futuristic vampire flick "Daybreakers" for Lionsgate Films.
Straying into horror genre, Ethan Hawke has reached deals to be the leadstar in Lionsgate's futuristic vampire feature "Daybreakers", The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Project will find the Austin-born actor play a researcher in the year 2017, during which a plague has transformed most of the world's population into vampires. Realizing that the human extinction is drawing near, the vampires must capture and farm every remaining human or find a blood substitute before time runs out.
Filming is due to begin July this year in Australia under the direction of Australian horror veterans Peter and Michael Spierig who will direct from their own script with Weta Workshop handling the creature effects. Lionsgate will launch the flick in the U.S. as well as in the U.K. and is handling international sales at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival.
