Barely reported to have stage director Phyllida Lloyd in talks to direct its new musical project of "Mamma Mia!", Universal has successfully listed Meryl Streep in to take part in the movie, Variety has revealed.
Here Streep will be poised as the rebellious single mother of a bride-to-be who never met her father. Conflicts occur when the daughter invites three likely paternal candidates to her wedding.
Streep, a native of Summit, New Jersey, is last seen playing opposite Anne Hathaway in Fox's drama comedy "The Devil Wears Prada" which recently led her winning the Best Supporting Actress title at the 41st Annual NSFC Awards. "Mamma Mia!" will be her first full-blown musical after her singing scenes in Robert Altman's "A Prairie Home Companion."
