"Casino Royale" Breaks U.K 007 Box Office Record

"Casino Royale" sets a new Bond film record for the opening day as it debuted high with 1.7 million pounds ($3.2 million) on the U.K box office.

The first blow coming from the new James Bond has proven to be extremely powerful indeed.

Opening in wide release yesterday, November 16, in the U.K, "Casino Royale" has gloriously hit the screen harder than any 007 franchise had ever done, selling 1.7 million pounds ($3.2 million) worth of tickets to become the new first-day record-holder of the film series replacing its predecessor, 2002's "Die Another Day."

Since this means that the movie's sale is a 54 percent increase over comparable sales for "Day", hopes are high for "Royale" to score at least the same attainment in North America where it is slated to open today, November 17.

In related news, "Royale" is also reported to have obtained official approval from China's Film Censorship Board to be screened in the country, the first Bond film ever to do so. It will be premiered in mainland theaters on January 30 next year.
