Perfect Couples Episode 1.08 Perfect Lies

The three couples enjoy a drink and discuss their pre-wedding plans for Amy and Vance, the bride and groom to be. For the bachelorette party, Julia has planned a relaxing trip to Vancouver. Vance warns the girls about Amy's friend Dottie; one drink with her and Amy turns into her old self. Amy counters by saying the guys better not take Vance to a strip club; he has a problem with needing to help wounded women. Dave reassures her that he's planned a camping trip far away from any strip clubs, bragging that he was almost an Eagle Scout. Vance says he looks forward to the moment of "deep emotional transcendence among lifelong friends," but Dave warns him not to put pressure on the moment.

Arriving in Vancouver, Julia, the maid of honor, breaks down their plans for the evening: massages and a nice dinner. She's interrupted when Amy's childhood friend from Louisiana, Dottie, arrives and takes charge of the situation. She has other plans for the evening, demanding that they throw back some shots and hit the town. When Leigh confronts Amy about Dottie's maid-of-honor attitude, she confesses that Dottie thinks that she is the maid of honor. Apparently they made a pact to be each other's maids of honor when they were 12, and Dottie takes it very seriously.

The guys are all set up at their campsite, staring up at the sky. As they admire the stars together they achieve their "moment of transcendence," and it's only 8:15. Luckily, Rex planned for this, and has a limo ready to go to take them to a strip club. Back to his old habits, Vance picks up a stripper in an attempt to get her on the right path, and ends up bringing her back to his place, where the guys are having an after party with camping equipment set up indoors. The stripper oversteps her bounds when she tries on Amy's wedding dress and accidentally sets it on fire.

Dottie and Julia start butting heads as Dottie tries to take over Julia's maid of honor duties. The fighting escalates until Dottie finally tells Julia to back off - after all, she is the maid of honor. The next morning, Dottie's still pushing the girls to get up and get drinking. Amy asks Julia to break the news to Dottie that Julia is actually the maid of honor; Amy can't bear to do it. Julia bites the bullet and tells Dottie the bad news. But when Dottie confronts Amy, Amy chickens out, claiming she knows nothing about it.

The next morning, the guys try and piece together their night. Apparently, after the dress caught on fire they aired it out by holding it outside the sunroof of a moving limo. In the process, they let go of the dress and it got caught in a tree. The guys evaluate the damage done to the dress, and decide there's nothing they can do to fix it. Vance wants to tell the truth, but Rex and Dan convince him that in this case, it's best to lie. When the details of Vance's story don't hold up, he calls in the guys for reinforcement. Despite the holes in their story, Dave manages to convince Amy they're telling the truth.

Though Julia manages to regain her rightful position as Dottie's maid of honor, the group learns that in a moment of weakness, Amy told Dottie that she and Julia could both be maid of honor. Julia's had enough, and tells Amy that Dottie can have the role all to herself.

Enraged at Amy's behavior, Julia lets slip what really happened to the dress that night, resulting in a fight between Dave and Vance. When Leigh jumps in with more details of the story, it's revealed that Rex told Leigh all about the guys' night as well. Vance is furious; all he wanted to do was be honest with Amy, but the guys forced him to lie. In reality, the guys can't even live up to their own man code.

Out for revenge, Vance tells Dave that in one hour he's leaving a message on Julia's voicemail revealing one of Dave's secrets. As such, he has an hour to get his affairs in order. Dave makes a flurry of confessions, only to hear that the voicemail is just Vance telling Dave that he's his own worst enemy.

Amy apologizes to Julia for her behavior; she broke the news to Dottie and has re-instated Julia as her official maid of honor. As for Vance, he's making some changes to his wedding wardrobe as well by buying a cowboy hat to wear with his tuxedo to appease Amy's Louisiana roots.
