Today is the first day that recruiters are officially allowed to talk to football players. The phone starts ringing off the hook, annoying Smash's family. Meanwhile, Julie's having a hard time getting out of bed, still bumming over Saracen and Lauren. Coach Taylor lectures the players. Recruiters will do anything to get what they want, but the Texas State High School Athletic Administration will exempt the team from playing if anyone is caught taking gifts. All recruiting meetings should go through Taylor's office.

Recruiter Miami Pete is waiting for Smash near the field. He says hello to cute cheerleader Noelle, whose brother is Miami South's star player. Smash invites Noelle to hang out. Jackie has moved in with Billy, so Riggins moves out, despite Jackie's offer to leave. With nowhere else to go, Riggins knocks on Tyra's door. She reluctantly allows him to stay for 48 hours while he finds a place to live.

At school, young-looking Noah Barnett asks Tami for the keys to the activity lounge, for the Dillon Chronicle meeting. She tells him to ask the faculty advisor, but he explains that he is the faculty advisor.Santiago's doing well at practice. Taylor tells him to go see Tami to make sure his academics are in order, so he can join the team.

In the hallway, Landry tells Tyra that his father burned up his car, destroying the evidence. He didn't want to tell her, but there's no one else he can talk to. Tami pulls Tyra away to meet with Lyla, asking the girls to organize the entertainment for Pantherama. Tami won't take "no" for an answer. Noah appeals to the Chronicle staff for article ideas. Julie offers to write an article on Pantherama - where does all the money go? Although the other students give Julie crap for writing about football, Noah likes her idea.

Santiago's grades are good, but Tami is concerned that he's using Garrity Motors as his home address. She wants to meet with Santiago's legal guardian, his uncle, but Santiago finally admits that he hasn't seen him in about a year. Saracen is going to look at a car. Lauren claims she's an exceptional negotiator, and offers to get him a good deal. They kiss in the hallway, upsetting Julie. She ducks into Noah's classroom and confesses the whole thing, and starts to cry. Noah offers her half his sandwich.

At home, Tami insists that Santiago needs a family before he needs a place on the football field, that's the only way it's going to work. Recruiter Marvin Gordon visits Smash and his mother Corinna at home. Gordon's historically black college, Whitmore, offers a full academic scholarship, but they have a losing football team. Smash explains that college is only a means to an end; he intends to go pro as soon as possible. Lauren negotiates $200 off the price of an old Dodge Dart for Saracen.

Buddy and Taylor stop by Tami's office. Buddy offers to have Santiago bunk with him. Tami "whisperyells" at Taylor, who claims he's not doing this for the team, he's trying to make sure Santiago doesn't fall through the cracks again. Lyla's upset that no one has signed up for Pantherama. Tyra grabs the list and heads to the boys' locker room. After confirming that the football players traditionally provide the entertainment for Pantherama, she sensually persuades the players to sign up. Julie turns in her article to Noah. He thinks it's good, but tells her to shorten it to make it great.

Smash's family isn't too pleased when he brings Noelle home to dinner. Her brother played the recruiters against each other to get the best deal, and wound up with a Porsche. Noelle's father says that the connections her brother will make on the team will serve him better than an MBA. Later, Smash and Corinna argue about the recruiters. What if Smash gets injured? Smash insists he won't end up like Jason Street - he's going all the way, and no one's going to hold him back.

Tyra has an idea on how to spice up the footballers' dance routine for Pantherama. Dropping off the keys to Noah, Tami's surprised to find him hanging out with Julie. When Carlotta sees Saracen bungling his dance moves, she helps him to loosen up. Tami talks to Buddy about Santiago, who isn't like his other kids. Buddy admits that he's nervous, but he knows he can do it, and he wants to give Santiago a chance.

Smash tells his mother that he declined Whitmore. He's thinking about his family and intends to go pro. He's not mad, but from now on, he's going to recruitment meetings alone. Tyra kicks Riggins out. Mindy offers the number of a friend, who needs someone to take care of his pets. Taylor is upset with Julie's article. She quotes him as having no comment, but she asked him through the bathroom door. Tami thinks Julie's made some good points, and has Taylor met Noah?

Corinna visits Taylor, complaining that the recruiters aren't saying a word about education. She's not asking Taylor to be Smash's father; she just wants to remind him that Smash doesn't have one. At Pantherama, the players take to the stage, and Tami gives Lyla and Tyra the thumbs up. When the guys take off their shirts, and then their pants, Taylor gives Tami a look, which she relays to the girls.

After Pantherama, Saracen gives Carlotta his car keys and an impromptu kiss, but she backs off. He's awkward the next morning at breakfast, but she puts her hand on his shoulder, and they smile. Taylor crashes Smash's recruitment meeting at a local restaurant. Miami Pete beats a hasty retreat. Smash claims he doesn't need Taylor to hold his hand, but Taylor promises to be there for every decision Smash makes.

Julie visits Noah, asking for writing tips. He tells her to read the New York Times everyday; she can share his copy. Riggins visits Mindy's friend Guy, who offers to let him stay if he takes care of his pet ferrets. Tami and Taylor help Santiago move into Buddy's apartment. Buddy seems a little embarrassed at how small the place is, but Santiago explains that Buddy Jr.'s bunk bed is the first real bed he's ever had.
