The team investigates a John Doe found in the trunk of a stolen car. A photo of a teenage boy in a hospital gown was found on the body, as well as silver dollar from 1860. A homeless woman named Delores takes a shine to our favorite phone company employee. In exchange for a dinner date with Walter, Delores gives them info on a guy named Louis who was talking to the driver of the stolen car. She'll call if Louis ever shows up again.

Candace and Tyler talk to Clayton Riggs, the head of pediatric cancer ward at a local hospital. He says he doesn't recognize Tyler's sketch of the victim, but a nurse does. She says he came in for a volunteer meeting and asked a lot of questions about the cancer ward.

Lindsey discovers the silver dollar is worth about $12,000. Alex's ex-wife, Greta, determines that the rare coin was bought at an online auction by an anonymous bidder, who paid twice what it was worth. Alex is struggling to find ways to reconnect with Greta, but their wounds run pretty deep. Still, we sense a glimmer of hope.

A DNA check shows that John Doe was arrested for assault, but the name in the system is for a Michael Sacks who died in prison. As it turns out, their victim has two sets of DNA because he had a bone marrow transplant. Lindsey tracks down the emergency contact for Sacks, a woman named Andrea Hudson who says that Sacks gave his bone marrow to Matthew Hudson, her son.

The picture Matt carried was of him when he was sick. Andrea says that after Matt was given a second chance at life, he became fixated on long shots. He was working as a stockbroker and was living with a woman named Olivia Hill. Lindsey and Candace discover they broke up months ago. She says that Matt was obsessed with living in the moment. Everything was temporary with him. Even her.

Alex and Detective Russell chat with a stockbroker acquaintance of Matthew's named Judd Shaw, who says that Matt was an aggressive trader who took the luck thing a bit too far. After Matt lost his job, he moved on to his next adventure by opening a 24-hour dry cleaning store.

While searching through Matthew's lone suitcase, Alex and Russell find a stash of chips. A chip grants its bearer access to an underground gambling facility located behind a dry cleaner storefront. When Alex, Tyler and Candace crash the casino, they discover that it's now owned by Matthew's old broker buddy, Judd Shaw.

Shaw worked for Matt at the casino and says his boss took a bunch of cash with him the day he disappeared. Matt hadn't been happy since Olivia left him and longed to find something more. He would often leave a package of cash for Clayton Riggs, the hospital administrator who said he didn't know Matt. Riggs used the money to help the kids at the hospital.

Delores calls Walter to tell them Louis is back. Louis says another homeless guy named Jason stole a car to sleep in during the day. Louis saw Jason carrying a black leather bag and something wrapped up, which he buried. It was the gun used to kill Matt. Prints match a recently paroled armed robber named Jason Burke.

Matt's cell phone records show a phone call on the day he died made to a restaurant called the Good Elephant. He told the hostess that he was planning a dinner to win Olivia back. A cab dropped him at a jewelry store where he bought an engagement ring with cash. A security tape shows Jason Burke scoping out the store while Matthew was there. His plans to rob it changed when he saw Matthew with a bag full of cash.

When the police learn that Jason Burke has returned to the homeless hangout near where he hid the gun, they swarm the area but take down the wrong man. Alex notices Jason away from the action and chases after him. Jason overpowers Alex and is about to stab him when...BANG! Detective Russell shoots him dead.

Matthew Hudson was tired of playing the long shots. He died trying to win back the surest thing he knew: the woman he loved. Thanks to the dedicated volunteers at the Forgotten Network, Olivia knows that even though Matt's luck may have run out, his love for her never did.
