The decomposed arm of a woman's body is seen sticking out of an oddly-shaped box in a downtown Chicago alley. The body was found six weeks ago and the police are unable to identify the victim. Detective Grace Russell turns the case over to Alex Donovan and his team at The Forgotten Network.

The team springs into action with Tyler creating a likeness of the victim as Lindsey and Candace investigate the unique box that held the body. The container is four feet long with a tiered design. They discover that the box was designed to hold a professional musical keyboard.

Alex and Walter head off to the Upton Hotel because a valet ticket was found in the victim's pocket. Walter asks for access to the surveillance tapes, but the hotel manager isn't about to hand over such confidential material to a telephone repairman. We know Walter won't stop until he gets what he needs. He returns to The Upton after the uncooperative manager's shift ends. He pleads his case to a more sympathetic hotel staffer, who gives Walter the goods. Let's go to the videotape!

The medical examiner discovers a diamond engagement ring in the victim's transport bag. Lindsey does a search of engagement announcements in local papers for the past year. She comes up empty regarding the victim, but does find an announcement featuring Candace, who had kept that part of her life a secret from the group. She left her fiancé at the altar and is upset with herself for having treated him so badly.

Lindsey notices that the engagement ring was custom-made, which may mean the victim's wedding dress was custom-made, too. A dress like that can be tracked because of the precise measurements. After checking out the records of many boutiques, they track down Patrick Dent. His fiancée is a family lawyer who has been missing from New York for several months. Her name: Allison James.

Patrick reveals that Allison lied to him about a business trip to Boston. He feared she was getting cold feet. Allison's parents believe Patrick loved her so much that the thought of losing her could cause him to do something drastic. Alex considers him the prime suspect, too. But the question remains: What was Allison doing in Patrick's hometown of Chicago?

They learn that Allison booked a plane ticket to the Windy City and had a car take her to the office of Patrick's father. Allison was trying to act as mediator between Patrick and his dad. They haven't spoken to each other ever since Patrick's dad divorced his mom and married a woman named Charlotte, whom Patrick believes is controlling his father.

Alex and Lindsey meet with Patrick's stepmom, Charlotte, who paints Patrick as the bad guy. Alex gets a call from Detective Russell who tracked down a local federal prosecutor who did a favor for his old law school friend, Allison James. The guy ran Charlotte's fingerprints after Allison caught her in a lie. Turns out Charlotte was actually born Rebecca Hill and is still married to a guy named Paul Grant. Lindsey offers to check him out.

Remember how our man Walter wouldn't leave the Upton Hotel without those surveillance tapes? Well, after many hours of viewing, Walter finally spots Allison entering the hotel. Charlotte also shows up on the video followed by Paul Grant, who kisses her in the lobby. Charlotte and Paul were running a con. They lured Allison to the hotel and killed her before she could tip off Patrick's dad. Detective Russell takes Charlotte into custody, but Lindsey has just arrived at the home of her accomplice, Paul Grant. Alex races to the house.

As Lindsey questions Grant, she panics when she sees a new keyboard in his dining room. It's the same type of keyboard that would have been packaged in the box that held Allison's body. Grant senses Lindsey's sudden fear and attacks her when she tries to escape. Alex breaks down the front door and is able to subdue Grant until Detective Russell arrives with backup.

Family was everything to Allison James. She wanted to help the man she loved know that feeling. She wanted to find a way for Patrick and his father to heal the past. At Allison's funeral, we see Patrick and his father reunited. Allison achieved her goal of bringing this family back together. And thanks to a different kind of family, she herself was reunited with all those who loved her.
