Celebrity

The actor brother of Julia Roberts, who is a big fan of the drug company's products and policy, believes that all Americans should have access to affordable drugs.

AceShowbiz - Actor Eric Roberts has signed up to front a new TV campaign for medical aid group GenMed for free, because he feels the public should be aware it's getting ripped off by major drug companies and insurance firms. The "The Expendables" star, who is currently battling an addiction to marijuana, admits he's a big fan of GenMed's products and policy, and he believes all Americans should have access to affordable drugs.

He says, "(They want) to make medicines totally affordable for everybody of all ages in all places. They (drug companies) put a big label on it (medicine) and they overcharge out the kazoo, and GenMed make it possible for everybody to get everything that they need for affordable prices and that, to me, is a big deal."

And Roberts tells news show "Access Hollywood Live" the medical system in America has changed for the worse since he came close to death after a car accident 30 years ago. He recalls, "In 1981 I had a car accident and I was in a coma for two weeks and when I came out of the coma, I didn't know who I was."

"And if it hadn't been for my great insurance at the time... it covered everything, thank God. If it hadn't, I would still be in debt because it was millions of dollars. They (insurance company) took care of me at the time but they're not the same as they used to be, so everybody has to read the paperwork."
