AceShowbiz - American TV actress Wendie Malick is bringing the story of 1950s animal rights activist Velma Bronn Johnston to the big screen in a movie documenting the campaigner's fight to end the slaughter of wild mustangs.

Malick, best known for her role on 1990s sitcom "Just Shoot Me!", has optioned Deanne Stillman's book "Mustang: The Saga of the Wild Horse in the American West" and will use the tome to detail Johnston's crusade, which earned her the nickname Wild Horse Annie. The actress will produce the film along with writer Stillman and Helen Bartlett, while Jenny Wingfield has been appointed to adapt the script, reports the New York Post.

Professionally, Wendie Malick debuted her career in 1982 NBC sitcom, "Cheers", playing Diane Chambers. In 1990, she landed her first lead role in TV series "Dreams" and remained on the show until 1996. Some TV series she has played included "Big Day", "Will You Merry Me", and "Hot in Cleveland".
