AceShowbiz - Marvel will release three new comic titles from its Midnight Universe line simultaneously on October 7, with these debut issues being the only new Marvel comics available that day.
The publisher cleared its entire October 7 schedule to spotlight the launch of Midnight X-Men, Midnight Fantastic Four, and Midnight Spider-Man. Each comic will feature a special Cloaked Cover design, partially concealing the artwork and revealing the full image only on the first page. Retailers can also access a range of exclusive launch promotions, including orderable incentives and an enhanced Midnight Variant Program tailored to these new titles.
Midnight X-Men is crafted by writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Matteo Della Fonte, with cover art by Dike Ruan. Hickman envisions this series as a bold reinvention of mutantkind, packed with complex storylines and long-term narrative payoffs. Meanwhile, Midnight Fantastic Four, written by Benjamin Percy with art by Kev Walker, offers a fresh origin steeped in cosmic and Lovecraftian horror themes. Percy describes this take on the team as one that spreads terror rather than heroism. The third title, Midnight Spider-Man, is penned by Phillip Kennedy Johnson with art from ScieTronc, marking the latter’s Marvel debut. Johnson has crafted an extensive series outline for this dark origin, where Peter Parker transforms into a spider hybrid battling human-animal monsters created by Oscorp.
The X-Men franchise has a long-standing legacy dating back to the popular 1992 animated series and numerous comic and cinematic adaptations. This new Midnight Universe iteration marks a significant tonal shift, presenting the X-Men as bloodthirsty figures rather than the heroes typically seeking acceptance and justice.
This concentrated launch underscores Marvel’s commitment to exploring darker, more unpredictable narratives with its iconic characters. The Midnight Universe offers creators the freedom to push boundaries and deliver horror-infused reinterpretations, signaling a fresh chapter for fans eager for innovative and unsettling storytelling within the Marvel multiverse.
