The Yellowstone universe expands beyond the flagship series. Explore new spinoffs, the 1944 series, and creator Taylor Sheridan's future plans.

AceShowbiz - Yellowstone may have concluded its flagship run, but its expansive universe is far from over. Despite the original series wrapping up with its supersized season 5B finale, the Yellowstone world is poised to continue engaging fans through multiple spinoff projects and fresh storylines.
The creative force behind the franchise, Taylor Sheridan, is preparing to transition from Paramount to NBCUniversal starting next year with a new film deal. Although Sheridan’s TV contract with Paramount extends through 2028, he plans to bring his talents to NBCUniversal once that agreement expires, signaling exciting developments ahead for the Yellowstone universe.
Following the immense success of the prequel series 1883, Sheridan continued exploring the Dutton family history with 1923, which recently completed its second and likely final season. The narrative timeline will next advance with the upcoming series 1944, continuing to delve into the Dutton legacy.
Production delays caused by Hollywood’s dual writer and actor strikes in 2023 impacted both Yellowstone and 1923, but Paramount Network remains committed to expanding the franchise. They have officially announced at least two new spinoffs: the World War II era 1944 and a present-day series initially titled The Madison. Notably, The Madison has since been separated from the Yellowstone-verse continuity.
In addition to these, two other highly anticipated spinoffs are in development. One focuses on Luke Grimes’ character Kayce Dutton, initially called Marshals before being renamed, while another centers on fan-favorite characters Beth and Rip, portrayed by Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, respectively, under the working title Dutton Ranch.
Originally premiering in 2018, the Paramount Network’s flagship series Yellowstone concluded its run with a six-episode second half of season five, which aired its finale on December 15, 2024. The show, formerly led by Kevin Costner, grew steadily in popularity, with season five’s first part delivering record-breaking ratings and the largest overnight launch in the series’ history.
The final season continued to attract large viewership numbers, culminating in the series’ highest-rated finale. However, after production delays caused by a scheduling conflict with Costner, Paramount announced that season five would be the last. Costner later confirmed his departure, leading to much speculation about how the story would address his character’s exit, especially after the midseason 5A cliffhanger.
The remaining main cast, including Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser, Wes Bentley, Luke Grimes, and Kelsey Asbille, continue to portray the Dutton family as they navigate the aftermath. With the flagship series concluded, spin-offs focusing on Reilly and Hauser’s characters Beth and Rip, as well as Grimes’ Kayce Dutton, are in early development, suggesting the Yellowstone saga will carry on through these new projects.
Due to a licensing agreement predating the Viacom-CBS merger, the original Yellowstone series streams exclusively on NBCUniversal’s Peacock platform, distinguishing it from the prequels, which are available on Paramount+. This streaming arrangement remains a key point for viewers who want to follow all aspects of the Yellowstone universe.
As fans await more details, it is clear that the Yellowstone franchise, despite the flagship’s conclusion, remains a dynamic and evolving saga with multiple narratives set to explore different periods and characters within the Dutton family lineage. The coming years promise an expanded horizon for this beloved Western drama world.
