Joy Division & New Order finally enter the Rock Hall. Peter Hook reacts to the 2026 induction, a milestone for the iconic post-punk and electronic pioneers.
- April 15, 2026
AceShowbiz - Peter Hook, founding member of the legendary bands Joy Division and New Order, has expressed immense joy following the announcement of their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2026. This marks a significant milestone for the iconic British groups, who had previously been nominated in 2023 and 2025 before finally securing their place.
The announcement came as a momentous occasion, especially considering the complex history between Hook and his former bandmates. After the tragic passing of Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis in 1980, New Order emerged and became a pioneering force in the '80s electronic rock and new wave scene. The band achieved worldwide acclaim with their distinct fusion of catchy pop melodies and dancefloor-ready beats.
Following a successful run of hits, New Order disbanded in 2007 but reunited in 2011 without Hook, who instead focused on his own project, Peter Hook & The Light. The split was accompanied by a very public falling out and a legal dispute involving lost royalties, which was ultimately resolved in 2017.
Despite past tensions, Hook expressed profound gratitude and excitement about the band's Hall of Fame induction. He said, "I am so happy about being accepted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame you would not believe it! It's such a compliment to all the fans of Joy Division and New Order and now it's been confirmed." He also paid tribute to the late Ian Curtis, Factory Records founder Tony Wilson, and band manager Rob Gretton, acknowledging their vital contributions to the band's legacy.
The Manchester-based legends will join a prestigious group of fellow British inductees including Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, Oasis, and Sade, alongside American artists such as R&B icon Luther Vandross and the influential hip-hop collective Wu-Tang Clan.
New Order’s induction has been widely regarded as overdue, given their impressive track record. The band boasts two UK number-one albums: Technique (1989) and Republic (1993). Their single "World in Motion," created for England's 1990 FIFA World Cup squad, also topped the UK charts. In the United States, six of their singles have charted on the Billboard Hot 100, while nine albums have entered the Billboard 200, underscoring their broad influence beyond commercial success.
Celebrating the news on social media, New Order shared a slide commemorating their Rock Hall induction, marking an important chapter in their storied career.
The induction ceremony is scheduled for November 14, 2026, in Los Angeles, and will be broadcast on ABC and Disney+ in December. Hook hinted at the possibility of a reunion for the event, stating, "I will be delighted to be inducted and am looking forward to the night so much! See you there."
Meanwhile, Peter Hook & The Light are planning a North American tour this August and September, spanning 22 dates. The band will perform Get Ready, the 2001 New Order album, in full, alongside key tracks from the extensive catalogs of both Joy Division and New Order.
New Order’s tenth studio album, Music Complete, was released in September 2015, and the band toured actively through 2025, maintaining their relevance in the music scene.
This long-awaited Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction cements the enduring legacy of Joy Division and New Order, celebrating their contributions to music and their profound impact on fans worldwide.
