Explore Radiohead's Kid A Mnesia Motion Picture House at Coachella: an immersive 17,000-sq-ft audiovisual bunker with original art & multitrack sound.

AceShowbiz - The immersive multimedia installation Radiohead has unveiled its newest experience, the Motion Picture House for Kid A Mnesia, which will open to the public at Coachella starting April 10. This unique event invites all ticketholders to explore a 17,000-square-foot bunker at the Empire Polo Fields, featuring soaring 38-foot ceilings that house the audiovisual journey.

The installation blends a film showcasing artwork created by Thom Yorke and Stanley Donwood during the making of the band's seminal albums Kid A and Amnesiac, originally released in 2000 and 2001. These visuals are paired with Radiohead’s original multitrack recordings, presented in immersive six-point surround sound, allowing visitors to experience the music and art simultaneously. The Motion Picture House also displays full-scale pieces of the artists’ work from that era in dedicated gallery spaces. While the band performed live tour dates in 2025—their first since 2018—the members themselves will not be present at the installation.

A trailer for the film reveals a silhouette of a horned creature with elongated fingers navigating a stark red backdrop before encountering human-like figures against a white background. This eerie imagery is accompanied by ambient music, creating a haunting atmosphere. Thom Yorke described the film’s story as centering on “a Monster trapped in a derelict museum of the lost & forgotten,” symbolizing a relic from a time “when technology could have saved us.”

Following its debut at Coachella, the Kid A Mnesia Motion Picture House installation will travel to cities including Brooklyn, Chicago, Mexico City, and San Francisco for extended residencies throughout 2026 and into 2027. Tickets for these events will be distributed via Fair AXS, with fans able to pre-register on a dedicated website for a chance to purchase tickets through randomized notifications. A general on-sale date for tickets is scheduled for 10 a.m. local time on April 24.

Visitors to the installation will be allocated two-hour time slots, with approximately 75 minutes dedicated to the audiovisual presentation. The remaining time can be used to explore the gallery exhibits in more detail, offering a comprehensive sensory experience of the Kid A Mnesia era.

Kid A Mnesia also refers to a box set anthology released by Radiohead in 2021. The project was initially introduced as a digital exhibition directed by Sean Evans during the Covid-19 lockdown and was accessible on the Epic Games Store and PlayStation 5. The Motion Picture House represents the band’s intended way for fans to fully engage with this artistic endeavor in a physical space.

Although this installation is not a live concert, the band’s guitarist Ed O’Brien recently shared with Rolling Stone that Radiohead has developed a more sustainable touring approach. “What we're going to do is, every year we're going to do a different continent, and we're going to do 20 shows each year,” he explained. However, the band has announced they will take a break from touring throughout 2026, leaving fans eager to discover which continent will be next when they return in 2027.
