AceShowbiz - On March 30, 2026, Netflix hosted an exclusive event at Max & Helen's in Los Angeles to introduce their upcoming crime comedy series Big Mistakes. The event transformed the popular local diner into a private gathering for influencers, stars, and the press. Guests were treated to a variety of the restaurant’s signature dishes.
The highlight of the evening was a lively conversation between Dan Levy and Rachel Sennott, the creators and stars of Big Mistakes. As the discussion began, both Levy and Sennott joked about the challenge of securing a seat at the event.
Big Mistakes marks Levy’s second original scripted series following the success of Schitt's Creek. The new eight-episode Netflix show follows siblings Nicky (Levy) and Morgan (Taylor Ortega), two inept siblings who stumble into organized crime after Morgan steals a necklace from a local shop to give to their dying grandmother.
During the Q&A moderated by Sennott, she asked Levy how he conceived the idea for a crime caper series after the massive success of Schitt's Creek. Levy explained that after the show ended, he found the typical question of “What are you doing next?” frustrating and “a horrible way of doing business.” He emphasized the importance of allowing time to process the significance of the previous show, both personally and publicly, before immediately jumping into a new project. Levy noted, “To jump into something else, it almost does the new project a disservice because you're constantly going to be comparing it to the one that came before.”
While taking time to reflect, Levy was far from idle. He remained creatively active, hosting HBO Max’s The Big Brunch, acting in shows such as The Idol (which featured Sennott), and movies like Good Grief. Eventually, Levy turned his focus to creating a new comedy series that challenged stereotypes, especially about LGBTQ+ roles in action genres. He wanted to develop a show that was thrilling, funny, and suspenseful while exploring a family story, this time focusing on a brother-sister dynamic.
Levy revealed that he immediately thought of Sennott as a collaborator, having formed a connection while working together briefly on The Idol. He recalled pitching the idea to her, and she instantly agreed to join the project.
