AceShowbiz - At the 2026 Juno Awards, legendary rock band Rush made a thrilling return to the stage, introducing their new drummer, Anika Nilles, for the very first time during a live performance. The concert marked a significant moment as founding members Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson reappeared as Rush after a decade-long break following their 2015 R40 tour finale.

The band opened the show with "Finding My Way," the debut track from their 1974 self-titled album. Notably, this was the only Rush studio album recorded with original drummer John Rutsey, preceding the late Neil Peart's tenure. Opting for this song was a meaningful nod to the band's beginnings and history.

Anika Nilles, known for her work with Jeff Beck, handled the performance with remarkable skill and poise. Playing a large drum kit emblazoned with the Rush logo, she delivered complex fills and rhythms under what was likely immense pressure. Meanwhile, Lee showcased a vocal range reminiscent of his younger days, and Lifeson seemed energized by the reunion. Keyboardist Loren Gold, also joining the upcoming tour, completed the expanded lineup.

Throughout the performance at Hamilton's TD Coliseum in Ontario, vintage footage of Rush, including moments featuring Peart, played on screens behind the band. This visual tribute underscored the emotional weight of the evening, blending remembrance with a fresh chapter for the group.

Since the 2015 tour ended at the Forum in Los Angeles, Lee and Lifeson had only appeared together sporadically, performing under their own names rather than as Rush. Their appearances included tributes to fellow musicians Gordon Lightfoot and Taylor Hawkins but never a full Rush set until now.

When asked about song selection after the performance, Lee admitted it was a tough decision given their extensive catalog. "You really can't ask us what song to play," he said. "If we have to choose one song, it's almost impossible. We have so many. So we just asked management, and they said first song, first album."

This landmark performance not only marked the return of Rush to live audiences but also introduced fans to a new era with Anika Nilles behind the drums, setting the stage for their forthcoming tour and future projects.
