Seth Rogen's sharp jab at the WGA West during his 2026 Actor Awards speech highlights union tensions with a humorous "Take notes" quip.

AceShowbiz - Seth Rogen took the stage at the 2026 Actor Awards with a sharp quip directed at the Writers Guild of America West, highlighting the recent cancellation of their awards show. The incident occurred during his acceptance speech for the best comedy actor award, an honor he received for his role in The Studio.
The WGA West had announced the cancellation of their upcoming awards ceremony, originally scheduled for Sunday, March 8, due to a strike by their own staff union. During his speech, Rogen remarked that SAG-AFTRA, the actors’ union hosting the 2026 Actor Awards, was “able to pay your own employees enough to keep the award show from being canceled.” He added with a humorous jab, “Take notes, WGA.”
The comments came early in the evening as Rogen accepted multiple awards. Alongside his best comedy actor accolade, he also received the best comedy ensemble award for the cast of The Studio and accepted an award on behalf of his late co-star Catherine O'Hara, who won best actress in a comedy series.
In his acceptance speech, Rogen reflected on his career, confessing that he had “always honestly kind of considered myself more of a writer who was able to write myself roles that I then kind of forced people to allow me to perform in.” He expressed that the award made him feel like an actor, appreciating the recognition.
Earlier that same Sunday, the WGA West officially communicated the cancellation of their awards event in a letter to presenters and participants. The letter, penned by WGA West president Mulroney, explained that the non-supervisory staff of the WGA West, represented by the Pacific Northwest Staff Union (PNWSU), was on strike. Mulroney stated, “While I respect the staff's right to strike, I also believe that you deserve an uncomplicated celebration of your achievements. We would not ask you, your guests, talent and crew to cross a picket line to attend.”
The Writers Guild Staff Union (WGSU), responsible for picketing outside the union’s Los Angeles headquarters, has accused management of unfair labor practices during contract negotiations. The staff union also alleged that management threatened to cancel the awards ceremony in an effort to “drive a wedge between union staff and WGA membership.”
The canceled Los Angeles ceremony was planned to be held at the JW Marriott L.A. LIVE and hosted by Atsuko Okatsuka. It was also scheduled to be livestreamed on the Writers Guild Awards West's YouTube channel. Despite the cancellation of the west coast event, the Writers Guild of America East’s ceremony in New York will proceed as planned on Sunday, March 8, with a separate union and no ongoing strike. The New York event will be hosted by Roy Wood Jr.
Rogen’s remarks at the 2026 Actor Awards emphasized the contrast between the two unions’ situations, underscoring the impact of labor disputes on celebratory events in the entertainment industry. His humor and candidness resonated throughout the evening as he accepted multiple accolades.
The WGA West’s decision to cancel its awards ceremony marks a significant moment amid ongoing labor tensions, highlighting the challenges unions face during contract negotiations and staff strikes. Meanwhile, the 2026 Actor Awards managed to proceed without disruption, showcasing the solidarity and organization within SAG-AFTRA.
As the strike continues, the entertainment community watches closely, with unions balancing the rights of their workers and the desire to honor creative achievements. Rogen’s pointed commentary adds a layer of industry insight to the unfolding story of labor relations in Hollywood.
