AceShowbiz - Richard Gadd is set to release his follow-up project to the Emmy-winning Baby Reindeer, a six-part drama titled Half Man, which will debut on HBO and HBO Max on April 23.
For audiences in the U.K., the series will be available with weekly episode releases starting April 24 on the BBC and BBC iPlayer.
The promotional artwork released on Monday features Richard Gadd alongside Jamie Bell, who stars as Ruben and Niall, respectively. The storyline centers on these two men described as brothers "not related in blood, but the closest you can get." One character is portrayed as fierce and loyal, while the other is meek and mild-mannered.
Half Man explores the intense bond between these two characters, who become inseparable in their youth and are brought together through death and circumstance, leaving them with only each other.
The plot thickens when Ruben unexpectedly shows up at Niall’s wedding three decades later, acting unusually anxious and shifty. This leads to an outbreak of violence that triggers a narrative spanning 30 years, flashing back from the present day to the 1980s to reveal the complex and fragile nature of their relationship.
The drama delves deeply into themes of brotherhood, violence, and the emotional fragility of male connections.
Actors Mitchell Robertson and Stuart Campbell bring younger versions of Niall and Ruben to life, while Neve McIntosh plays Niall’s mother, Lori, and Marianne McIvor portrays Ruben’s mother, Maura.
Richard Gadd is the creator, writer, and executive producer of Half Man. He previously gained recognition with the 2024 Netflix series Baby Reindeer, which depicted his prolonged experience with a female stalker and won six Emmys and two Golden Globes. Jessica Gunning also starred in that acclaimed series.
The production team includes executive producers Sophie Gardiner and Anna O’Malley, along with Gaynor Holmes for the BBC and Gavin Smith for BBC Scotland. Direction is helmed by Alexandra Brodski and Eshref Reybrouck. Mam Tor Productions’ executive producers Tally Garner and Morven Reid oversee the project, which is produced in association with Thistledown Pictures.
Half Man is a collaboration between Mam Tor Productions, part of Banijay U.K., BBC iPlayer, BBC One, BBC Scotland, and HBO. Banijay Rights manages international distribution beyond the BBC and HBO territories. The series also receives support from Screen Scotland.
This upcoming drama promises a powerful exploration of male relationships and emotional vulnerability, marking another significant project from Richard Gadd following his previous critical success.
