AceShowbiz - Bridgerton took an unexpected approach in its Season 4 finale by including a post-credits scene that delivers the much-anticipated wedding of Benedict and Sophie, played by Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha. This move, reminiscent of Marvel’s signature end-credit moments, gave fans a proper conclusion to their romantic journey.
Throughout the finale, viewers saw Benedict and Sophie become engaged after concocting a white lie to be together. However, the actual wedding celebration—featuring beloved characters like Jonathan Bailey’s Anthony and Simone Ashley’s Kate, alongside the Crabtree family—was reserved for the scene after the credits rolled. The ceremony took place at the charming “My Cottage,” uniting the families in a heartfelt moment.
Showrunner Jess Brownell explained the decision behind placing the wedding scene post-credits, noting she wondered if some viewers might miss it initially. She said the finale was already packed with significant moments, including the Whistledown reveal, so giving audiences a breather before the wedding allowed the emotions to settle and the joy to resonate more fully.
“We originally planned for the wedding to follow immediately, but felt the engagement and reveal were already a lot for viewers to absorb,” Brownell shared. She emphasized the importance of preserving the wedding scene rather than cutting it, as it gave the “Cinderella figure” Sophie her deserved happy ending.
The couple’s journey to matrimony was marked by obstacles, most notably the interference of Sophie’s stepmother Araminta, portrayed by Katie Leung. With assistance from Violet (Ruth Gemmell), Sophie was able to navigate societal challenges and maintain her relationship with Benedict without alienating his family.
Brownell highlighted the significance of the couple overcoming the class divide that threatened their union, calling it one of the most magical aspects of their story. The wedding scene ultimately crowned their perseverance and love, providing a satisfying closure to their arc.
All four seasons of Bridgerton are currently available to stream on Netflix, where fans can revisit the romantic drama and its captivating finales.
