AceShowbiz - The Bell Jar is set to be adapted into a film featuring Billie Eilish in her first major acting role. The project is directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Sarah Polley, who is also writing the screenplay based on Sylvia Plath’s 1963 novel.

Focus Features has secured distribution rights for the movie, which is produced by Plan B Entertainment and StudioCanal. Joy Gorman Wettels is producing the film. Gorman Wettels initially developed the project through her company, Joy Coalition.

The story of The Bell Jar centers on Esther Greenwood, a college student navigating her mental health while working at a magazine.

Billie Eilish, a 10-time Grammy winner, recently earned her second Academy Award for the song "What Was I Made For?" from the 2023 film Barbie. This followed her first Oscar win for "No Time to Die," the theme song for the 2021 James Bond movie of the same name.

While Eilish’s career has been primarily music-focused, she has explored acting with a role in the Prime Video series Swarm and hosting an episode of Saturday Night Live in 2021.
