AceShowbiz - Alien: Earth first premiered on FX last August, quickly garnering praise from both fans and critics. Following its strong reception, confirmation came that Season 2 was officially greenlit. Now, lead actress Sydney Chandler has shared exciting production news revealing that filming for the new season is scheduled to begin this May at Pinewood Studios in London.
The show’s first season wrapped with a dramatic cliffhanger, featuring the character Yutani and her group arriving at Neverland Island. Alongside Wendy and a team including Nibs, Curly, Slightly, Smee, Joe, and two Xenomorphs, they boldly declared, “Now, we rule.” This moment set a thrilling stage for the story continuing into Season 2.
Production for the sophomore season moved from Thailand to London, aligning with a new overall deal between showrunner Noah Hawley and Disney Entertainment Television. This shift to Pinewood Studios is notable, as the location holds historical significance for the franchise, having hosted filming for the original Alien movie, as well as Alien 3 and Prometheus.
While Sydney Chandler mentioned she has yet to see any scripts, the start of filming indicates that pre-production and development are progressing well. The planned May shoot also suggests a potential 2027 release date for Season 2 on FX and Hulu, which is a relatively short turnaround by today’s standards. For comparison, other popular series like Severance and Stranger Things have experienced gaps of three years or more between seasons.
Back in November, showrunner Noah Hawley expressed enthusiasm about his expanded deal with Disney Entertainment Television. He highlighted FX's dedication to bold, character-driven stories and his excitement for continuing the Alien: Earth saga with the cast and crew as they embark on the next chapter.
For those unfamiliar, Alien: Earth is set in the year 2120 during the Corporate Era, where Earth is governed by five major corporations: Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic, and Threshold. This future world features cyborgs—humans enhanced with artificial parts—and synthetics, humanoid robots with artificial intelligence.
The central storyline revolves around the Prodigy Corporation’s breakthrough: hybrids, humanoid robots infused with human consciousness. The first prototype, Wendy, is a pivotal figure in the race for immortality. After a collision between Weyland-Yutani’s spaceship and Prodigy City, Wendy and the hybrids confront terrifying alien life forms, presenting a new level of danger and intrigue.
As anticipation builds for Season 2, fans should stay tuned for further updates on Alien: Earth’s production progress and release plans. The upcoming season promises to expand on the rich narrative and complex characters introduced in the debut season.
